Fixing the Diablo 3 Installation Problem in Mac

The steps below are resolutions to installation issues with Diablo III. They are ordered from the most common at the top, to the less frequently needed at the bottom.

Note: If you are receiving a specific error when attempting to install Diablo III (example: BLZPTS00007), search for the support article for that specific error and follow the relevant steps before trying the steps on this page. Also, if you participated in the Diablo III beta, please make sure to uninstall the beta client before installing the retail version.

Before You Install
-  Make sure you are logged on an administrator account on your Mac.
-  Ensure your Mac meets the Diablo III System Requirements.
-  Make sure there is enough free disk space, as 12 GB is required.
-  Run Software Updates to ensure you have installed any pending updates.

Troubleshooting

Use Archive Utility to Extract Installation files from Battle.net
When Diablo III is downloaded from Battle.net, files are compressed into an archive (.zip file) for download. Using third-party extraction utilities can alter permissions and cause installation issues. Archive Utility is available on all Macs and can prevent permissions from being altered.

1. Using Finder, locate the Diablo III download (default location is ~/Downloads).
2. Right-click the archive (.zip) file and select Open With > Archive Utility.
3. The files will extract. Double-click the installer to run.

Firewall, Proxy, Router and Ports Configuration for Blizzard Games
Security software (firewall/antivirus program) and hardware (router) systems are designed to specifically control your computer's incoming and outgoing connections. You may need to set up these security features to allow access to the game servers. If these systems are not set up correctly, they may prevent you from connecting to our game servers. You can find more information located on the Firewall Proxy, Router and Ports Configuration for Blizzard Games support page.

Eliminate Security Program Interference
Anti-virus and firewall applications (Norton, LittleSnitch, PeerGuardian, etc) are designed to protect your computer from perceived threats. Many security programs are not game-friendly and will frequently perceive a game installation or update as a threat and shut it down.

Disabling or temporarily uninstalling these programs will usually permit the Diablo III installation to complete successfully. However, be advised that some security programs will continue to partially run even when disabled.

If you are uncomfortable troubleshooting your security programs yourself, please contact the tech support of your security program for assistance.

Shut Down Background Applications
The other programs running on your computer could be interfering with Diablo III's installation. We recommended running in Selective Startup mode when attempting installation, since background applications can interfere significantly with these operations. You can find more information and detailed instructions for this mode on the Closing Background Applications page.

Fix Permissions and Hard Drive Errors
A few bad sectors on your hard drive or altered disk permissions can result in installation issues. To fix these, please follow the instructions on our Repair Permissions and Repair Disk page.

Check Your Diablo III DVD for Damage
Examine the underside of your game DVD for any smudges, scratches, or cracks that might be preventing your computer from properly reading the disc. If your disc is too damaged to work, you can download the game instead.

Scan your Mac for Subtle Problems
Mild memory (RAM) issues can interfere with game installation. We recommend running memory scan utilities such as the Apple Hardware Test. Please run the extended testing option, as mild errors on your memory sticks will often not be uncovered with shorter scans.

Note: If you've pre-downloaded the digital version of the game in German or English before 10:00 AM CEST (9:00 AM GMT) on Saturday May 12, you must obtain the new downloaders to be able to install properly once the game is released on May 15:

1. Obtain the new Diablo III digital downloader using the links below
2. Point the download save at the same directory as before. The folder in question is your main game data folder. If you have the game downloaded to D:\Games\Diablo-III-8370-enGB-Installer, please point the download to D:\Games\. Do not use the automatically generated folder containing the installation files (i.e. do not use the directory D:\Games\Diablo-III-8370-enGB-Installer as this is the one created by the downloader).
3. If you chose the correct directory only 50MB will need to be downloaded to fix your install, otherwise you'll re-download the entire ~7.6GB
